Covid-19 has shaken the world to its foundations and has exploited the truth of technology and human safety in the era of technological change. As the pandemic caused havoc in its first wave, the researchers all across the globe tilted towards the search for rapid detection of the lethal virus before the strives towards the vaccine.
Along with other countries of the world, Pakistan and its researchers also stepped into the race. Recent reports have revealed to surface a big victory by a Pakistani national who is a doctor by profession and is residing in Toronto contemporarily. Dr. Naqeeb Khalid has developed a diagnostic test for lethal coronavirus detection with the help of a smartphone.
Unlike past detection processes, which were slow and time taking, this new process for the revealing of Covid-19 uses smartphones. Dr. Naqeeb states that a smartphone app will soon be available in the app stores for downloading which will provide an instant diagnosis of the virus infection.
“Instant, accurate, and low-cost testing that does not rely on laboratory testing is essential in containing the pandemic and together with vaccines, we can control the Covid-19 outbreak and return our lives and economies to normal,” told Dr. Najeeb Khalid while discussing his novel discovery.
Pakistani High Commissioner to Canada Mr. Raza Bashir Tarar felicitated Dr. Naqeeb Khalid for his exceptional achievement in a video conversation with Dr. Naqeeb Khalid. Mr. Naqeeb Khalid has played a pivotal role in the development of the app for the detection of the novel virus as he led the whole process being the Director of the Medical Device Program at the Montreal-based Two Photon Research Inc. The High commissioner considered the idea of Covid detection through smartphones as new and exceptional which needs to be praised a lot.

The development of an app for the detection of Covid-19 in such circumstances will definitely help to overcome the disease as soon as possible.
The high commissioner further added that after successful clinical trials and required approvals by the authorities, the app will soon be made available for the common masses to get easy access to Covid-19 diagnosis in a quick and accessible way.
Dr. Naqeeb Khalid is a medical graduate from King Edward Medical University in 1983. He sought the help of his brother Mr. Najeeb Khalid, his brother, in this innovation as Mr. Najeeb Khalid has a background in a broad range of engineering and science disciplines. Both the brothers told the high commissioner that the process of instant diagnosis uses a digital platform and GPS information for quick results to appear on any smartphone.
