ISLAMABAD: The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday offered Jamiat UIema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Abdul Ghafoor Hyderi the position of Deputy Chairman Senate (The Upper House), polls for which are scheduled to take place March 12.

The offer came to the fore as the JUI-F secretary met PTI’s Senate chairman candidate Sadiq Sanjarani on Tuesday. Commenting on the development, PTI leader Pervez Khattak confirmed that the party has extended the offer to Hyderi.

When the JUI-F leader was inquired whether the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had offered him the slot, he said that he has not been formally informed about a decision.

“I cannot say anything about the offer for Deputy Chairman Senate as of now,” Hyderi said, and added, “We hold meetings on a continuous basis. Sadiq Sanjari is the chairman [Senate] for the time being.”

On Monday, PDM – the 11-party anti-government alliance – on Monday unanimously nominated former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who recently defeated the PTI’ Hafeez Sheikh, for the post of Senate chairman.

Earlier, on March 4, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced Sadiq Sanjrani as the party’s candidate for chairman Senate.
